VITAMIN D & IODINE …the  forgotten ones.
 
Vitamin D, more specifically vitamin D3, carries enormous importance for well being and prevention of disease. It regulates the proper function of our immunity, heart, blood pressure, muscle, bone and even insulin. Its importance is such, that many authors considers it as a true hormone.  

Levels of under 40 bring increased risk of    
  • uterus and ovarian cancer
  • infections of all kinds, tumors
  • breast and colon cancer, osteoporosis
  • lymphoma, diabetes, heart attacks
  • Multiple Sclerosis, fractures

How to get Vit. D3??  - Diet will not provide……..foods have very little Sun will not provide……...you’ll need to go twice a week to the beach, at lunch-time, stay for 3 hours without sun blocker, then not to shower for 4 hours, and then you may make enough. Worse…….sun screens, clothing, medications and body fat block production of vitamin D at the skin. SO TAKE VITAMIN D3.


But careful: MOST BRANDS AND OVER THE COUNTER VITAMIN D ARE NOT RELIABLE AND CAN EVEN BE CONTAMINATED WITH IMPURITIES (don’t buy cheap, take only very good brands). Our office can advise you on safe brands.

LOW VITAMIN D3 MAY ALSO CAUSE

  • bone fragility and fractures
  • depression
  • osteoporosis
  • pain
  • risk for infections 
  • increased risk for heart disease
  • diabetes
  • increased risk for stroke
  • arthritis
  • increased risk for all kinds of cancers
  • and increased risks of all cause mortality (which means higher risk of dying from any cause) 
Yes:
Vitamin D3 has anti-cancer effect, anti-heart attack effect, anti-stroke effect and ….anti-dementia effect too (it decreases the risk for getting dementia).
Do you need more reasons to check your levels and maybe take Vit. D3 regularly?

RECOMMENDED DOSE:  5.000 to 15.000 units a day. . . . of the brands recommended by the Academy. For weekly or bi-weekly dosage ask Dr. Nuchovich. 
 
I O D I N E
Commonly lost in sweat and urine….but commonly not replaced. 10-20% Americans suffer from Iodine deficiency.
 
Iodine helps thyroid function and it is essential for all those affected by hypothyroidism. It is also needed for estrogen metabolism, diabetes prevention and management, brain function and specially for breast tissue: it is very important for prevention of fibrocystic breast disease and breast cancer. Studies show that iodine deficiency leads to breast cancer.

Iodine supplementation is recommended by the International Council for the Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders, by the American Thyroid Association and even by the World Health Organization.
Individuals affected by autoimmune thyroid disorders and /or Hashimoto’s are the exception and should not take iodine supplements.. RECOMMENDED DOSE:  150 micrograms (mcg) but many authors recommend much more (1000 – 12.000 mcg/day)
